Easyjet to serve Jersey

Easyjet will fly to Jersey for the first time next year. It will inaugurate daily flights from both Luton and Liverpool next Spring.

Flights from Liverpool get under way on March 31, 2008 with fares starting at £38 return. Services from Luton will follow a few weeks later.

The move is significant because air services to Jersey (an island which is not a member of the UK or EU) are not deregulated, and when Easyjet last applied to start flights a few years ago, it was rebuffed by the authorities.

This time however Jersey’s Economic Development Minister has come around to the fact that Easyjet can benefit the island, which is both a tourist and financial centre, by bringing in lots of new visitors.

The government is helping Easyjet with preferential landing fees at Jersey airport plus marketing support.

Easyjet expects to carry 200,000 passengers in the first year. Some of these will use Luton as a connecting point to and from Easyjet’s domestic and mainland European network.

Flights for Liverpool-Jersey are already on sale. Bookings are expected to open soon for Luton-Jersey.
